Funeral services for Zelma Elizabeth Black, 96, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Kim Hayes officiating.
Zelma Elizabeth (Martin) Black was born March 31, 1923 in Joy Coy, Colorado, the daughter of Claude Martin and Evelyn (Hatfield) Martin. She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in Ninnekah, Oklahoma.
As Zelma grew up, her family moved around quite a bit, living in Colorado, Texas and Pocasset, Oklahoma. She married LeRoy Black on December 24, 1941 in Chickasha and they lived in the Chickasha area all their married life.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and when they were younger, she followed her sons around the country watching them play ball. She loved spending time with her family and being involved in their activities. She also enjoyed crocheting and the family has many of those crocheted items.
Zelma was a member of Bible Baptist Church and loved Jesus and she loved her church family and they loved her.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, LeRoy; sons, Claude Black, Duane Black, and Dale Black; brothers, James Martin and Roy Martin and sisters, Ruth Wright and Shirley Hopkins.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Yvonne Black of Ninnekah and Douglas and Tina Black of Chickasha; brothers, Buford and Jerry Martin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to The Bible Baptist Church-Children’s Fund.
Interment in Fairlawn Cemetery will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
