Funeral services for Wynona Joyce Cavel, 80, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Bible Baptist Church with Kim Hayes officiating.
Wynona Joyce Cavel was born January 25, 1935 in Pocasset, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jimmie C. Benson and Lorriane (Hardy) Benson. She died Saturday, October 31, 2015 at her home in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Wynona grew up in Pocasset and graduated from Pocasset High School. After high school she married Chris Parrish and from this union two sons were born, Chris Parrish, Jr. and Mark Parrish.
On November 11, 1985, she married William “Bill” Cavel in South Lake Tahoe, California.
She was employed with Brauer and Wood Architects for a time, and then in 1970 Wynona began a 30 year career working at Washita Valley Head Start, beginning as secretary to the director, and over time she became the Social Services Manager. Working at the Head Start gave her opportunities to advance her education through many workshops and extensive classes in her field. She received several awards and honors over the 30 years there. After her retirement from Head Start, she was employed with Gentiva Health Services for a time.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
Wynona enjoyed gardening, quilting, crafts, and going shopping. She was a graceful lady and she cared for others. She loved her grandkids and family.
She was preceded in death by both parents and her husband, Bill Cavel.
Survivors include son, Chris Parrish and his wife, Dona, of Pocasset; son, Mark Parrish of Pocasset; grandchildren, Clay Parrish and his wife, Holly, of Pocasset, Tori Breedlove and her husband, John, of Cleveland, Kristen Parrish of Chickasha, and Ryan Parrish of Chickasha; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laverne Love and Nancy McAtee; and other extended family and friends.
The casket will be open at the funeral home and at the church before the service; it will be closed after the service.
Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
