The family of Wilma Dean Avant, 90, of Chickasha will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
Wilma Dean (Ross) Avant was born November 4, 1933 in Elk City, Oklahoma the daughter of Archibald Columbus Ross and Eda Lois Thompson Ross. She passed from this life on Sunday, February 11, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Wilma grew up in Tahlequah and attended Tahlequah schools. She married Tom Avant on October 5, 1950 and they spent over 62 years together. Tom and Wilma lived in California for a short time then moved back to Oklahoma in 1955. She was a homemaker while her children were young and then was later employed at Southern Plains Medical Clinic. Wilma enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spend time with her grandchildren. Later in life Tom and Wilma traveled the United States in their RV. They loved to spend time in the mountains in Colorado and in south Texas. Wilma never met a stranger and everyone enjoyed her outgoing personality. She also loved to play bingo where she made lifelong friends.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cement.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, husband Tom on August 6, 2011, son-in-law Brett A Cook and grandson Drue Vanschuyver.
Loved ones left to remember her are her daughter Janet Jackson of Chickasha; sons and daughter-in-law’s, Tom and Susie Avant of Chickasha, Scott and Rebecca Avant of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Troy Avant of Olathe, Kansas; nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and other extended family and friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
