Funeral services will be held for William ‘Willie’ Overton Lee, Jr., 89, of Chickasha at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012, in the First Church of the Nazarene, Chickasha with Roscoe Strunk and Wally Boyd officiating.
William ‘Willie’ Overton Lee, Jr. was born in Cooperton, Oklahoma, on December 4, 1922, the son of William Overton Lee, Sr. and Mina Hargrove Lee. He died on Monday, May 7, 2012, at home in Chickasha.
Willie grew up during the Depression and quit school in 8 th grade to help the family. He married the love of his life, Roxia Virginia Melton, on November 1, 1941, in Hobart, Oklahoma. They were married for 68 years before Virginia went home to heaven in June of 2010.
Willie always worked so very hard and loved his family with his whole being. After losing his son, Dwayne, he helped raise his grandchildren as his own. He was very well-known, as he painted residences and businesses in the Chickasha area for over 30 years before his retirement.
Willie was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the First Church of the Nazarene in Chickasha. He was always there on Work Day and helped finish the new church.
He was preceded in death by: both parents; wife, Roxia Virginia Melton Lee; one son, Wesley Dwayne Lee; two grandsons, Jason Edward Whitcomb and Dennis Dwayne Lee; and one sister, Gertrude Lee Walls.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Regina & Jim Whitcomb of Chickasha; five grandchildren, Robin Lorraine Lee Heath of Bethany, Kirk William Lee & wife Teressa of Bixby, Wesley Dwayne Lee & wife Angie of Mounds, Ok., James Lee Whitcomb & wife Shanna of Chickasha, and Tanner Lamoyne Bowen & wife Jody of McCloud; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mae Lee Hoover of Austin, TX and Dortha Lee Smith of Lawton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, May 9, 2012.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Chickasha.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
