Memorial services for William G. “Bill” Erwin, 86, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Keneda officiating.

William G. “Bill” Erwin was born on May 9, 1934, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Robert W. and Lucille (Brown) Erwin.  He passed away on January 22, 2021, at his home in Chickasha with his family by his side.

Bill grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1952 where he lettered in football, his favorite sport. After high school Bill attended the University of Oklahoma where he met his wife, Ann. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration and was commissioned a 2 nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.  He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Bill became a pilot at 16 years of age and never lost his love of flying.  He was active in Air Force ROTC and a member of the Wing Staff while at OU.

He was employed by Boeing Airplane Company in Wichita, Kansas, prior to active duty with the Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.  He entered pilot training in Moultrie, Georgia, and received his wings at Vance Air Force Base, in Enid, Oklahoma.   He was transferred to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, and continued his flying career and instructed Officers Accounting and Finance.  He was relieved from active duty in 1959 and employed by Consolidated Gas in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1967, Bill was formally released from inactive duty from the Air Force with the rank of Captain.

Bill and Ann returned to Chickasha in 1959 where he joined his father’s business, American Dusting Company.  He was active in Chickasha serving as city councilman, President of Chamber of Commerce, Board Chairman of Epworth United Methodist Church, Board Chairman and Director of Chickasha Bank and Trust.  He served as president of both Oklahoma and National Aerial Applicators Associations and was a member of Chickasha Industrial Authority.

Bill was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church for 55 years.  He enjoyed family trips and travel, fishing trips with close friends, and as always, OU football and flying.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Ann, his mother and father and three brothers, Robert Wayne Erwin, Gary Wesley Erwin, and Donald Lee Erwin, and grandson Thomas William Baker.

He is survived by his children, Sherron Powell and husband Kenny, Stephanie Lantz and husband Royal, and Steve Erwin and wife Rebecca, all of Chickasha; grandchildren Josh Powell, Terry Allen, and James Myers, Jarred Powell and wife Cassidy, Jillian Powell Nieto and husband Bearren, Jaimie Milliser, Jordan Baker, Austin Erwin, Jarett Erwin, Jessica Erwin Longest and husband Corey, Chelsea Suanny, Chanel Lantz, Cody Whittington and wife Kenzie; great grandchildren Landon, Reece, Boston, Harley, Macki, Alia, Knox, Nora, Bearett, Bryn, Cherub, Jayton, and Analiese; brother-in-law Andy Campbell and wife Karen of Durant; nieces Melissa Burgan, Marsha Cook, Debbie Falls; nephew A.O. Campbell; and other extended family and friends.

The family extends their appreciation to Mobile Meals of Chickasha, Dr. Don Hess, and Jennifer, Tabitha and Shyla of Lifeline Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to Mobile Meals of Chickasha.

Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
