Funeral services for William David Edwards, 76, of Anadarko, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Hope Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma with Pastor Billy Adams officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 in the Ft. Cobb Cemetery.
William David Edwards, known to many as “Bill”, was born on May 19, 1941 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the son of Charlie Edwards and Dixie Rae (Weathers) Edwards. He died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Bill grew up in the Caddo County and Noble areas.
On October 20, 1958, he married Annie Lucille Shobert in Lookeba, Oklahoma. They were married over 58 years and had four children.
The day after he and Annie were married he enlisted into the U.S. Army, becoming a career military man from the age of seventeen. He was part of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and had extensive overseas service in Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Germany. He was medically retired from the military in 1979, as a 100 percent disabled veteran.
After discharge from the Army, he built two of his own construction companies. Eventually he and Annie returned to Oklahoma in 1986, completely retiring and settling in Ft. Cobb. Then around 1999, they moved to Anadarko.
Bill was a member of Hope Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church. He was a Master Woodworker and put many hours and much love into using his talents for construction and improvements at the church. He enjoyed cleaning the church and mowing the church lawn. He loved reading his Bible and researching Biblical history, he also enjoyed studying History with his daughter, Polly, and fishing with his family. He had a quiet and compassionate nature and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family deeply.
He was preceded in death by father, Charlie Edwards; mother, Dixie Post; step-father, Tomas Post; brothers, Luther Dale Post, Loyd Thomas Post, and James Thomas Post; sister, LaDonna (Post) Milam.
Survivors include his wife, Annie, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and Rick Sponsel, of Thornton, Colorado; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Joe and Aleta Edwards of Owasso; daughter, Polly Ann Edwards, of Anadarko; son Charles Ray Edwards, of Anadarko; grandchildren, Danielle Rene Edwards-Plane, Cathleen Ann Edwards, Elizabeth Renee Edwards, Cassie Renee Edwards, Robert Randolph, Mary Randolph, and Sheila Patton; brothers, Elmer Ray Post, Danny Earl Post, and Will D. Post; two beautiful great-granddaughters; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be at Ferguson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 29 th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Interment will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
