Graveside services for William “Bill” Sherwood Crittenden, 92, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 in Fairlawn Cemetery with Reverend David Thompson officiating.
William “Bill” Sherwood Crittenden was born August 10, 1928 in Arkansas to William and Ruth Crittenden. He died Monday, October 26, 2020 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Bill graduated high school and shortly after joined the United States Air Force, serving his country for three years as an airplane mechanic.
On June 18, 1949, he married the love of his life, Betty Thompson and they had over 71 years together.
For a while, he worked as a telegrapher for the Rock Island Railroad and also he worked for and retired from Mobile Oil Company. Bill then started his own plumbing company while he was still in Arkansas. He and Betty moved to Chickasha to be closer to Betty’s parents. He continued his business in this community and was a plumber for over 54 years. He was passionate about his work and he could talk with anyone. He never met a stranger. He was an honorary member of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale Crittenden.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; good friend, Scott Rangel of Chickasha; and sister-in-law, Mildred Crittenden.
Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
