Funeral services for William “Bill” M. Boxley, 87, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Joseph Woods officiating.
William M. Boxley was born January 15, 1928 in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, the son of Samuel A. Boxley and Effie K. (Cole) Boxley. He passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Bill moved to Chickasha from Ninnekah with his family as a child and attended Chickasha Public Schools, graduating in 1946. He joined the Merchant Marines and later attended college at Cameron University in Lawton. While he was in the Reserves he was called to active duty during the Korean War, where he served in the United States Army. For his service to his country, he received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.
On April 15, 1950 he married the love of his life, Ethel Sue Blurton, in Ryan, Oklahoma and they were united in marriage 55 years, until her passing in 2005.
He worked for Superior Oil and Gas and later was employed by USDA in the Watershed Research Department, retiring in 1988. He liked to play cards and garden. Bill really loved all OU Athletics. Bill was a member of the Chickasha Elks Lodge # 2125 for many years, where he had served as the Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of Parkview Christian Church for many years.
Bill was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Sue Boxley, one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sharyl Boxley, of Tuttle; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Greg Rowe, of Edmond; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
