Virginia Sue (Wheeler) Hays left her earthly body on August 19, 2019. She was born on August 8, 1942 to John and Dovie Wheeler in DeQueen, Arkansas. Her family moved to New Mexico when she was a child and she graduated from Lovington High School in 1960.

In 1961 she married AC Hays. For several years they lived in Texas then moved to Oklahoma where they lived in Oklahoma City, Mustang, and Chickasha. Virginia worked in banking then years later in retail. Before retirement she worked for several years at the Chickasha Walmart where she made lifelong friends with coworkers and customers.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a gifted crafter and loved shopping for just the perfect gift for her family and friends. Throughout her life, she volunteered for numerous organizations but devoted years as a troop leader, trainer, committee member, and board member for Sooner Girl Scout Council. She was awarded the Girl Scout Thanks Badge and the Walmart Volunteerism Always Pays Award. She was a member of Parkview Christian Church. Virginia’s favorite role was being a grandmother. Virginia loved people and was grateful for friends she made from all of her different walks in life.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jackie Standard.

Virginia is survived by her husband AC, her daughter Melissa Evon and son-in-law Mike Evon of Elgin, grandson Hayden Evon, a sister Shirley Fairfield of Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

The family will hold a celebration of her life on Saturday, August 24 at 10 am at Parkview Christian Church in Chickasha.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkview Christian Church, Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma, or Elgin Middle School Winter Wishes.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
