A memorial service for Violet M. Hamand, 85, of Chickasha, formerly of Carmen, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 in the College Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Haynes officiating.
Violet M. Hamand was born January 14, 1939 in Habana, Cuba to Angel Morejon and Rosa Maria (Vidal) Morejon. She passed from this life on Friday, September 6, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
At an early age, Violet immigrated with her parents and siblings to Venezuela, where she attended school.
On September 28, 1957, she married William W. Hamand in Maturin, Venezuela. When they married, William had several children and then six boys and one girl were born to their union. Upon William passing Violet and her children immigrated to the United States and settled in Carmen, Oklahoma.
She went to work at the Carmen Home for several years and later attained a job at James Crabtree Correctional Center until her retirement.
Violet enjoyed collecting eagles. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friends in the Spanish Club in Enid. She loved dancing and playing with her grandchildren. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and loved her church and church family.
She was preceded in death by both parents, an infant son Leonardo Hamand, her husband William W. Hamand, her sister Nancy Morejon and several of her stepchildren.
Loved ones left to remember her are her sons and daughters-in-law William and Susan Hamand of Stillwater, George and Paula Hamand of Houston, Alaska, Charlie and Linda Hamand of Lemmon, South Dakota, John Hamand of Ringwood, and Richard and Nancy Hamand of Nash; daughter and son-in-law Katy and Wayne Woodall of Chickasha; brother Ernesto Morejon of Tucupita, Venezuela; step-daughter Jessie Peck of Ponca City; eighteen grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
The service and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
