Violet Geneva (Baker) Holloway was born in Paoli, OK on August 7, 1925 to Ora Mae (Watson) Baker and Lewis Baker. She passed away at Glenhaven Nursing Home in Chickasha, OK on January 9, 2018, at the age of 92.
A viewing for Violet will be on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2-7 p.m. and funeral services will be Monday, January 15 th at 1:00 p.m., both to be held at Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Kim Hayes is officiating. Interment of cremated remains to follow at Paoli Cemetery at a later date.
Violet was raised in Paoli, OK with her parents and 7 siblings. After her high school graduation, during WWII she lived in OKC and worked at Tinker Air Force Base riveting the tails on C-47 planes. After the war she became a telephone operator.
Violet met her husband George when he was a wounded Marine. They got to know each other while he was recovering at the VA Hospital in Norman, OK. They were married on January 14, 1946 (George’s 21 st birthday) in Baldwin City, KS. They were married for 68 years.
They lived in McPherson, KS and Stillwater, OK, while her husband was finishing his secondary education and they settled in Escondido, CA where she was a homemaker and he was a teacher, living there for 30 years until retirement. After retiring, they moved to Baldwin City, KS and spent several years there before moving to Chickasha, OK.
Violet’s interests included doing crafts, gardening, and her family. She loved to travel and one time she and her family drove to the tip of Panama in 1967. Her and her husband were snow birds and would spend many winters traveling in their RV to Lake Corpus Christi in TX. They also drove to Alaska in 1991, where they fished for halibut.
Violet is survived by 2 sons, Dean Holloway of McPherson, KS and Rex Holloway (fiancé Katie Wright) of Chickasha, OK; 5 grandchildren, Brian Holloway (wife Jodi), Vanessa Driggers (husband Beau), Jacy Holloway (fiancé Lindsey), Tara Churchill (husband Nick), Deena Wilson (husband Casey), 16 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bob Baker (wife Mary) and Gary Baker; 2 sisters, Wanda Holloway & Donna Patton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Holloway; mother, Ora Mae (Watson) Baker; father Lewis Baker; brothers Eugene & Edward Baker; sister Patty Hesch; brother-in-law Jesse Holloway; daughter-in-law Mary Holloway; and great-granddaughter Brianna Holloway.
