Funeral services will be held for Vester Eugene Chavers, 77, of Chickasha at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2012, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.
Vester Eugene Chavers was born in Lamar, Arkansas, on October 15, 1934, to Hubert and Dovie (Clayborn) Chavers. He died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in Oklahoma City.
Ves moved from Arkansas to California at the age of five where he grew up on a fruit ranch and graduated from Armijo High School in Fairfield, California, in 1953. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952, and proudly served his country as a flight mechanic for four years of active service followed by four years in the Reserves. During his active duty he served in the Korean Conflict.
After leaving the military, he was a jet mechanic for civil service for many years. He returned to Arkansas in 1972, and remained there until he relocated to the Chickasha area in 1981. Ves married Deena Adams on August 5, 1982, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He worked as an auto mechanic for years in Chickasha, retiring from Ralph and Sons, and has been a bus driver for Chickasha Public Schools for the past ten years.
Ves loved a good deal; he never met a bargain he didn’t like. He never knew a stranger and has many good buddies that will greatly miss his easy company. Ves had a passion for music and played just about every string instrument ever created. He also loved to paint and draw.
All fish feared him .
He was preceded in death by: both parents; daughter, Cheryl Chavers; daughter-in-law, Nikki Chavers; grandson, Drew Chavers; two brothers, William Chavers and Sonny Chavers; and two infant sisters, Alma and Shirley.
Survivors include: wife, Deena Chavers of the home; children, Randy Chavers and wife Carrie of Chickasha, Jerry Chavers of Chickasha, Janna McCoy & husband Robert of Choctaw, and Michael Chavers of Chickasha; six grandchildren, Kaytlyn McCoy, Kristen McCoy, Sean Brown, Ashley Chavers, Mackenzie McCoy, and Zachary Chavers; and other family and many friends.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
