A funeral service for Veda Faye Phillips, 87, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Anthony Brucci officiating.
Veda Faye (Carr) Phillips was born September 27, 1936 in Dibble, Oklahoma to Garten Carr and Rosa Lena (Barrett) Carr. She passed from this life on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Veda grew up in the Dibble and Chickasha area.
Around 1958, she married Ernest Lake and to this union they had two children Steven and Rita. She then had her daughter Grace Rose. In 1967, she married Jimmy Don Phillips and he opened his heart up to her children and they were blessed with a daughter Beth Ann. She raised her children and enjoyed being with them and playing basketball.
Veda worked for many years cleaning houses and taking in ironing. She worked for Jimmy’s Cleaners for several years then worked at Joe’s Cleaners. Around the year 2000, she was diagnosed with dementia and had to quit working, but still ran around, enjoying life.
She liked spending time with family, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She and Jimmy Don enjoyed going dancing, having lunch at the Senior Nutrition Center, joining in the activities, and going for all-day drives on the weekends. Veda loved being around people and always put a smile on everyone’s face.
She was preceded in death by both parents; husband Jimmy Don in 2014; sisters Jimmy Lee Boswell, Letha Halburg, Betty Romportal, brothers Gene Carr, Ronald Carr, and Donald Carr; son Steven Lake; great-grandson Taylor Lake; great-granddaughter Mikhayla Marie Noyes; nieces Rachael Carr and Vicki Tava; and nephew Billy Neeley, Jr.
Loved ones left to remember her are her daughters Rita Iles and significant other Mike Medders of Ninnekah, Grace Phillips of Stillwell, and Beth Ann Phillips of Enid; sister Ivone Neeley and husband Billy of Rendon, Texas; brothers Charles Carr and wife Pam of Chickasha and Eugene Carr of Chickasha; grandchildren Brandy Jantz of Chickasha, Jesse and Kayla Jantz of Shawnee, Christopher and Dustin Cain of Comanche, Amber and Aaron Dame of Chickasha, Amrah Cain of Chickasha, Kassie Jackson of Oklahoma City, Steven Lake, Jr. of Chickasha, Cassy Lake of Chickasha, Mark and Cody Hatchett of Chickasha; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be at Ferguson Funeral Home on Monday, December 11 th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
