Valeta Gayle Clark

d. September 21, 2016

Funeral services for Valeta Gayle Clark, 88, of Norman, formerly of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Pat Kennedy officiating.

Valeta Gayle Clark was born on August 9, 1928 in Blair, Oklahoma, the daughter of Greer and Jewell (Dearing) Boyd. She died on September 21, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma.

She lived in Oklahoma City until she was a teenager, and then moved to Chickasha to live with her Aunt Jessie Kinley. That is when she met her beloved Red, whom she married on July 14, 1945, in Tyler, Texas.  They were married for 50 years.

Valeta loved animals, especially her cat Chrissy. She enjoyed bird watching and OU football. One of her favorite things to do was to walk with the band to Owen Field on game day, and she loved going to Las Vegas to play the slots. Valeta was a girly-girl who loved to have her hair and nails done once a week. Her strong will and sassy attitude always kept everyone laughing.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Billie “Red” Lloyd Clark; son, Billy Gale Clark; grandson, Michael Todd Benson; brothers, Audrey Boyd and James Edward Boyd; and her beloved dog, Peppy.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jim Benson of Norman; granddaughter, Jennifer Shaw of Norman; three great-grandchildren; sisters, June Cole of Wynnewood and Eleanor Lee Wright of Pauls Valley; cat, Chrissy; and other extended family and friends.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
