A graveside funeral service for Tommy Lee Hackney, 81, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday February 5, 2024 at Fairlawn Cemetery with Eddie Cape officiating and Daryle Perry assisting.

Tommy Lee Hackney was born July 4 th , 1942 to Willie Dee Hackney and Lou Ada (Hall) Hackney in Purcell, Oklahoma and passed away on February 1, 2024 in Chickasha after a courageous fight against cancer.

Tommy was the 9 th child out of 10 and was the last one left. His childhood was spent in the Dibble area and he graduated from Dibble High School.

Tom met Betty Lou Cape and after a whirlwind romance, they married on April 28, 1962 in Anadarko Oklahoma.  They made their home in Chickasha and were together for 55 years until her death in 2017.

Tom was a welder by trade and worked at many horse trailers manufacturers in and around Chickasha during his lifetime.  He retired from Cimarron Trailers in 2016.

Tom enjoyed tinkering in his shop, building wagons, working on his rat rod, breeding and raising game chickens.   In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, coyote hunting.

Tom was baptized and was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, infant son Tommy Lee Jr., parents and 4 brothers, Ed, Joe, John and James and 5 sisters Cordelia, Jean, Betty, Novalene and Hazel.

Tom is survived by his son, Tony Hackney and wife Carol of Chickasha; grandchildren Joseph Hackney and fiancé Alison Shindler of Chickasha, Alaina Hayes and husband Levi of Weleetka and Jared Turney and Wife Brooke of Chickasha; great grandchildren, Cooper Hackney, Aiden Hayes, Brycen Hayes, Talan Turney, Landan Turney and Kash Turney and Jonah Schindler; brothers-in-law Eddie Cape and wife Patsy and Jerry Cape and wife Cathy; and sister-in-law Carol Merchant and husband Roger; special niece Jackie Reed and husband Harold Paul; and other nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Viewing and visitation with family here to receive friends will be at Ferguson Funeral Home on Sunday, February 4 th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
