A funeral service for Syble Inez Harris, 92, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Butler officiating.
Syble Inez (Morrow) Harris was born April 12, 1931 in Caddo County, north of Anadarko, Oklahoma to William John Morrow and Rosa Lee (Tabors) Morrow. She passed from this life Thursday, June 1, 2023 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Syble spent her early growing up years in the Amber area, then a few years in Agawam, and would be the first in her family to finish high school at Cement Schools.
On July 17, 1949, she married Thomas James Harris and they shared 47 years together until his passing in 1997.
Syble was saved in the Amber First Baptist Church and was baptized in the Chickasha First Baptist Church. In her older years, she became a faithful member of the Chickasha First Baptist Church.
She and Tom raised their family at Anadarko. She worked as a grocery clerk in Anadarko at various stores over the years. In 1999, she moved to Chickasha to care for her sister, Fay. She also worked as an aide with the Chickasha Public Schools Title 1 Reading Program, even taking a required test in her 70’s and passing, continuing to help the children, whom she loved and missed once she retired. Syble was an avid reader of all genres; she had a complete collection of Louis Lamour books. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband Tom Harris; brothers Andy Morrow, Bill Morrow, and Melvin Morrow; sister Nilla Fay Morrow; and granddaughter Tammy McGuire.
Loved ones left to remember her are her daughters and sons-in-law Marietta and Kenneth Long of Fort Worth, Texas and Marcia and Leon Shumway of Chickasha; grandchildren James Long, Chris Long and wife Susan, all of Fort Worth area, and Brad Shumway and wife Karla of Chickasha; great-grandchildren Samantha, Sean, Charity, Joseph, Brandon, Kody, Tony, Dena and Lana; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Verden Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home
