Private services will be held at a later date for Sammie Dunn, 79, of Ninnekah.
Sammie Dunn was born on May 6, 1932, in Bridgeport, Texas, the son of Doc Dunn and Nell Jeter Dunn. He died on Sunday, February 19, 2012, in Chickasha.
Sammie grew up and attended elementary school in Ninnekah. Later the family moved to Edmond where he played football for Edmond High School. He graduated in 1950.
On August 5, 1950, he married Billie June Zimmerman in Tucumcari, New Mexico. To that union his three children were born. In 1952, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served four years, until 1956, as an airplane mechanic. In the 1970s he became a licensed pilot and later worked as a flight instructor.
Sammie enjoyed fishing and boating but especially loved to spend time with his family and all the boys.
He was preceded in death by: both parents; wife, Billie June Dunn; one grandson, Eddie Dunn Ivy; one brother, Howard O’Quinn Dunn; and one sister, Maydell Stull.
Survivors include: one son, Bill Dunn & wife Laura of Peyton, CO; two daughters, Donna Dunn of Norman and Della Ryans & husband Charles of Ninnekah; three grandsons, Billy Ryans & wife Nicole of Chickasha, Nathan Dunn & wife Julie of Duncan and Caylon Dunn of Norman; one granddaughter, Charlesanna Ryans of Ninnekah; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Don Dunn & wife Bea of Chickasha.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
