Funeral services for Ruth Marie Kennedy, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Justin Avery officiating.
Ruth Marie (Gray) Kennedy was born January 13, 1919 in Hickory, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Gray and Olive Ann (Hamby) Gray. She passed from this life to be with our Lord on Monday, April 8, 2019 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 100 years, 2 months and 26 days.
Ruth was raised in Hickory and moved with her family to Amber, where she graduated from high school in 1937. She then went to nursing school.
On December 23, 1938, she married Newburn C. Kennedy in Chickasha, Oklahoma. They were married for 63 years when he passed away in 2002.
Ruth was a homemaker most of her life, raising her boys and helping with the farms. She was also a member of Parkview Christian Church and enjoyed being involved in church activities. She loved to sing and gardened up until a few years ago.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Newburn; great-great grandchild, Jase Bentley Green; and six siblings.
Survivors include her sons, Bill Kennedy and wife, Carol of Moore and Ronnie Kennedy and wife, Vicky of Byhalia, Mississippi; grandchildren, BD and Katarina Kennedy of Sweden, Mike Kennedy of Harrah, Steve and Angie Kennedy of Checotah, Phillip Kennedy of Byhalia, Mississippi, Laura Brennan of Yukon and Jerrod and Julie Idleman of Moore; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be at Ferguson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10th from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 11th from 8:00 a.m. to the service time.
Interment in Fairlawn Cemetery will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
