Graveside services for Ruby Combs Baker, 95, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 in the Fort Sill National Cemetery located in Elgin, Oklahoma.
Ruby Combs Baker was born June 25, 1920 in Hindman, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert and Pollyann (Hurt) Combs. She died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Ruby grew up on Hominy Mill in Kentucky. After graduating high school she worked as a grocery clerk. She joined the United States Army and was stationed at Eagle Pass, Texas. During the occupation she was stationed in Berlin, Germany. After her military services, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1948, she married James Baker in Dayton, Ohio and to this union her two daughters were born.
She lived most of her adult life in Euclid, Ohio, moving to Chickasha in 2012 to be near her daughter. The last two and a half years she has been a resident of the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center.
She enjoyed working puzzles, gardening and doing crafts.
Ruby was preceded in death by both parents and her siblings, Vanita, Alma, Gracie, Anna Lee, Vernon and Shelby.
She is survived by her daughters, Regina Walko and husband, Roger, of St. Petersburg, Florida and Marsha Baker and husband, Stephen Symes, of Chickasha; grandchildren, Rachael Doherty, Jesse Slater, Dylan Slater and Quinn Walko; great-grandchildren, Naia McFarland and Hadassah Slater; sisters, Marie Mullins, Juanita Kintz and Daphne Stamper all of Dayton, Ohio; and other extended family and friends.
Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
