Graveside services for Ronald Gordon Heavin, Sr., 77, of Verden, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the Verden Cemetery.
Ronald Gordon Heavin, Sr. was born on March 1, 1940 in Verden, Oklahoma, the son of William Oren Heavin and Dorothy Fern (Pulis) Heavin. He died on Sunday, April 23, 2017 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Ron grew up in Verden and attended Verden schools. After graduating from Verden High School, he entered the United States Air Force and served his country for twenty years.
He was a Vietnam Veteran and after retiring from the Air Force, he went into law enforcement for eighteen years. He had been the Police Chief of Verden and retired as interim Police Chief of Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Ron married Joyce Marie Overby on August 27, 1981 in Wichita Falls, Texas and they enjoyed 35 years together.
He loved baseball and mowing the yard.
Ron was preceded in death by both parents, Dorothy Heavin and William “Doc” Heavin, one sister, Charlotte Shelden and one brother, Roland Heavin.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Joyce Heavin; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Redemer of Verden; daughter, Verna Redemer of Oklahoma City; son, Ronald Heavin, Jr. of Maryland; grandson, Joshua Castlebury of Moore; granddaughter, Rachel Redemer of Verden; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Herron of Tulsa; two great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
