Funeral Services for Robert Joseph (Joe) Deaton, 68, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Robert Joseph Deaton was born July 31, 1943, in Comanche, Oklahoma the son of Robert C. Deaton and Melinda Hazel Elliott Deaton. He died Friday, February 3, 2012, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Joe grew up in Loco, Oklahoma. He attended Loco Public Schools and graduated in 1961. He enjoyed his family and life. Among the many activities he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, trapshooting, reloading, working on guns, buying and finishing furs, and golf. A game of poker with his friends or in a tournament was an activity he truly enjoyed. Sharing his love for trapshooting was evident through the years of working with Caddo and Grady Counties 4-H shooting sports. He was a talented man. He was always self-employed. He did carpenter work, roofing, for many years a country fur buyer and sold hunting supplies and made hunting lights for coon hunters.
He married Hope Landrum on December 23, 1975, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Jimmie A. Deaton and George Deaton, two sisters, Ruth Laverne Hire and Linda Beth Smith, and one son Bobby Deaton.
Survivors include his wife Hope Deaton of the home, daughter Shelly Apple of Comanche, Oklahoma, one grandson Dalton Apple also of Comanche, Oklahoma and one brother Richard Deaton of Mineola, Texas.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
