Funeral Services will be held for Richard D. Schmidt, 69, of Cement at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Richard D. Schmidt was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on December 13, 1946, the son of Henry Schmidt and Marie (Sebrant) Schmidt. He passed away on June 2, 2016, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
He grew up around the Chickasha area and attended Pioneer and Verden Schools.
On August 11, 1970 he married Linda Unruh and to this union three children were born.
He spent his entire life farming either for himself or for the various farmer/ranchers that he knew and worked for. Richard had many interests during his life but his favorite above all was the time he spent working with his son-in-law Daniel at Daniel’s Machine Shop, where he played and teased his daughter and grand-daughters much more than he actually worked. Richard also worked for Delta Faucet for almost 20 years. When Delta Faucet relocated he then completed the precision machine program at the Canadian Valley Technology Center at the age of 60.
Richard loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening and cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Henry and Marie Schmidt and one brother; Verlin Schmidt.
He is survived by his wife; Linda Schmidt, of Chickasha; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Mindy Schmidt of El Reno; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christy and Daniel Teel of Pocasset and Shelly and Cody Jackson of North Africa, sister; Rosalie Singleton of Oklahoma and sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Paul Unruh of Mississippi; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Barbara Schmidt of Oklahoma and Robert and Virginia Schmidt of Arkansas; seven grand-children and extended family and friends.
Services and interment at Plainview Mennonite Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home of Chickasha, Oklahoma.
