Funeral services for R. C. Smith, 77, of Chickasha, will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Full Gospel Church with Sister Alice Wendling officiating.
R. C. Smith was born March 8, 1938 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the son of Cecil B. Smith and Ruby J. (Welchel) Smith. He died Monday, August 24, 2015 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
R. C. grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha High School, playing football. Right out of high school, he joined the United States Army and served as a paratrooper.
He was a roofer his entire life and enjoyed fishing, golf, and playing pool and bingo. He was an avid OU and sports fan and loved browsing and buying at garage sales and flea markets. R. C. loved spending time with all of his family; they would play games of all kinds including dominos and cards. His life centered around being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for his dog, Gibbs. He was a very caring and giving man; he would always thoughtfully offer you some sort of treasure he found at a garage sale or flea market.
R. C. was preceded in death by both his parents; brother, Bobby Joe Smith; sister, Connie Schmidt; son, Randy Smith and his wife, Ronda; step-daughter, Dana Stovall; grandson, Craig Smith; and great-granddaughter, Adelyn Smith.
He leaves behind his wife, love, and companion of 35 years, Ann Stovall, of the home; daughter, Debbie Tow and husband, Richard, of Chickasha; son, Terry Smith, of Ninnekah; step-sons, Danny Stovall, of Chickasha, and Jeff Stovall and wife, Rhonda, of Piedmont; sisters, Linda Briscoe, Esta Hatchett and husband, Joel, and Sheila Smith, all of Chickasha; brother, Gary Smith, of Newcastle; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Services and interment in Ninnekah Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
