Page Michael “Hawkeye” Helf

d. April 24, 2019

Page was born in Fairfield, California to Harrell C. and Billie Jean (Porter) Helf 5th October 1955. As a toddler Page and his brothers Marc and Kevin joined their parents in their journey to spread the Word of the Lord for the Church of Christ in Pistoia, Italy. Many happy memories were created by the Helf family in Italy, and Page became a big brother when a sister, Lianne, joined their family. The Helf family returned to the U.S. and after a time established a home in Chickasha where Harrell ministered to the congregation at the Northside Church of Christ, Chickasha, Ok. Page graduated from Chickasha High School in 1974.

Page loved his family, his friends, the Lord, big dogs, fat cats, and an old Harley Davidson Shovelhead. He loved nothing better than twisting the throttle and riding into the wind. He enjoyed a nice glass of wine, a good book, a blazing bonfire, sitting in a porch swing and listening to John Prine. He was a good man; he worked hard, loved deeply, he was kind and thoughtful, had a slightly twisted sense of humor and just enough “bad boy” to keep life interesting.

Hawkeye met Katie Granger in 1985 in Rush Springs, Ok. They married in Benton County, Ark. In 1987. He built our first home, with the help of friends and family, on a ridge that overlooked a holler in Arkansas. It was primitive but peaceful and some of our happiest memories were made there.

In 1995 Hawkeye & Katie came home to Oklahoma. For almost twenty years Hawkeye was a construction superintendent for Midwest Towers and as such travelled coast to coast building cooling towers. His last few years of work were as an equipment operator for Amertech.

On April 24th 2019 cancer took Page’s body, his soul went to Jesus. Page was preceded in death by his grandparents; Papa Jack and Bertha Young Porter; Paul and Loda Helf; his parents, Harrell and Jean Helf; two brothers-in-law; Johnny Squyres and Darrell Thompson; and three nephews; Tommy Allen Ikard, Jarod Scott Granger and Jackson Wood.

Page is survived by his wife of 31 years, Katie Granger Helf, of Chickasha. His beloved aunt, Patsy Porter of Chickasha. Brother Marc and Dianna Helf of Sterling, Ill. Brother Kevin and Patty Helf of Collinsville, Ok., and daughter Susan. Sister Lianne and Orville Voyles; their daughters April and Heather.

Hawkeye leaves behind to keep his memory alive his mother-in-law Oneta West of Cement, Ok. Jeannie and Dean Branch of Norman, Ok. Mike & Shelly Granger of Lewistown, Mt. Andy & Krista Granger of Decatur, Tx. Pamela Granger Thompson of Chickasha, Ok. Frankie & Patricia Gee of Rush Springs, Ok. JoD and Mark Hobgood of Verden, Ok.

There are three very special young people left to carry on Page’s name: Madison Paige Thompson; Damien Michael Hobgood; and Lucy Paige Rooks.

Hawkeye was blessed with a multitude of nieces and nephews and I would surely forget to mention someone if I tried to say each of your names, so I will tell you that your Uncle Hawk loved you and was proud to be your “Cool Uncle.”

We are grateful to our Families for bringing food, running errands, and basically brushing the stumbling blocks from our path. We want to thank our nurses Lisa and Mondaie with Ross/Aspire Hospice, we were blessed when you came into our lives. We are thankful for all of you who visited, phoned, or texted. We especially thank those of you who prayed for us during this difficult time. Your prayers sustained us and gave us courage and strength.

When you hear the thunder roll, you’ll know that Hawkeye and Damn Darrell, Grizz and Denise, Snivelin’ Joe and Cantankerous Barney are throttling up for a ride through Harley Heaven, where the curves are gentle and the air is sweet.

There will be no funeral service and the memorial will be private. As Hawk would say; “It is what it is”. Live to ride, ride to live.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
