A funeral service for Orlin Patricia Akins, 86, of Chickasha will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Blankinship officiating and Jim Talbert assisting.
Orlin Patricia (Brown) Akins was born August 25, 1937 in San Franciso, California to Oliver Paul Brown and Orlin Melinda (Tappin) Brown. She passed from this life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, in Chickasha, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family.
Orlin was raised in Hopland, California where she attended local schools. She married Charles Edward Akins on December 21, 1953 in Hopland, California. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Yukon, Oklahoma where they managed the Superior feed and chicken farm. They later moved to Laverty for a short time before settling in Chickasha, where they raised their two children, Wayne and Kathy Akins. Orlin was a homemaker and cared deeply for her family. Charles and Orlin made their family homestead on a 160-acre ranch close to Lake Burtschi where they raised cattle and held family camping events. Some of her fondest memories were having horses and bottle-feeding her calves. Orlin was an amazing cook, and a very skilled seamstress. She sewed homemade clothing for her children and passed on to her grandchildren all her homemaking skills. She was a member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha. Later in life, she was a volunteer at the Southern Oaks Food & Clothing Room, and loved on all the people who came through. She loved to travel the countryside and take cruises but she especially enjoyed her trip to Europe and Canada to visit her family. She loved her daily coffee, crispy bacon, and The Price Is Right television show. Orlin was known for giving pajamas to her grandchildren and great grandchildren for holiday gifts especially at Christmas. Most of all she loved her family with all her heart and lived for moments when she could babysit her grandchildren and teach them the foundations of life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Akins on October 26, 1995; both parents; brother and sister-in-law Sonny and Nola Brown; brother Jim Brown; brothers-in-law Anthony Luchetti and Bill McCarn. Lee and Ethel Akins and the eleven Akins siblings and their spouses.
