A funeral service for Opal Mary Capshew, 94, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2024 in the Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Emeritus Kim Hayes officiating and Pastor of Laverty Baptist, Matthew Riddle, assisting.
Opal Mary (O’Briant) Capshew was born August 27, 1929 in Minco, Oklahoma to Albert Ray O’Briant and Dessie Ann (Shepard) O’Briant. She passed from this life on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Opal grew up in the Minco area, graduating from Minco High School in 1947. She attended Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO) receiving her teaching degree. She was a teacher in the Sterling High School for over twenty years.
In 1950, she married Earl Everett Reed and they shared twenty-nine years together until his passing in 1979.
Over the years, she was a member of Laverty Baptist Church and Bible Baptist Church.
She later married Frank Capshew and they shared twelve years of marriage until his passing in 1999.
She was preceded in death by both parents, husbands Earl Everett Reed and Frank Capshew, her step-dad Audrey Daniels, step-son Clayton Capshew, a brother Donald O’Briant, and two sisters that died at a young age.
Loved ones left to remember her are her daughter and son-in-law; Sharon and William Kolzen of Sterling; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Gail Reed of Nevada and Terry and Elaine Reed of New Braunfels, Texas; step-son and step daughter-in-law Charles and Loni Capshew and Clinton Capshew both of Owasso; step-daughter and step son-in-law, Linda and Jeff Daniels of Sand Springs; brother Albert David O’Briant of Hinton; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be Friday, March 29, 2024 at Ferguson Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Sterling Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
