Funeral services for Norma Jean (Mimi) Lee, 79, of Chickasha, will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church with Denver Talley officiating.
Norma Jean Howie was born October 20, 1934, in Mead, Oklahoma, the daughter of Samie Howie and Jacqulin Rudisill Howie. She died Sunday, December 29, 2013, in Chickasha.
Jean grew up in Calera, Oklahoma, and attended Calera Public Schools. She married Archie “Gail” Lee, on July 29, 1952, in Calera, Oklahoma. She and Gail moved to the Chickasha area with their three daughters in 1964.
Jean was very active in her community and church. She taught in the First Baptist Church Children’s Department Sunday School for thirty plus years. She was a former member of the Adult Choir and Adult Sunday School. She served on the Board of Trustees, Nominating, Hospitality, Personnel, Centennial, as well as various offices in Choir. She worked with the Children’s Choir for five years. She was also an avid supporter of the Youth Group in the seventies, helping with bake sales, car washes, and other fund raisers for mission trips. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce where she served on several committees, American Business Women, Volunteer of the Year, and Chairman of the Store Committee of the Festival of Light. She chaired and worked the Festival Of Light for nine years, prepared food for workers and purchased merchandise for the Christmas gift store. She was employed at Mosley Company for more than thirty years in insurance and real-estate. She left Mosley Company in 2000 so she and Gail could manage the rental agency and Southland Shopping Center for a few years. They decided to move their business to their home in 2007.
Although Jean was actively involved with her church and community, her family was always her first priority, along with “the Gang”. Spunky all the time, she and Gail made time to always attend their grandchildren’s sporting, 4-H, and FFA events. Mimi’s home and kitchen was always open to anyone. Sunday lunch was a very special occasion for family and friends. Everyone was always welcome and there was always plenty to eat.
She was preceded in death by both parents; one infant brother Billy Franklin Howie; one infant son, Tommie Gail Lee; and her husband, Gail Lee.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-laws Debbie and Sherman Grubb III of Sapulpa; Vicki & Brian Jackson of Chickasha; and Leslie Lee and Michael Kleid of Oklahoma City; one sister and brother-in-law Lawanna & Jim Pair of Bakersfield, California; grandchildren and their spouses: Justin & Mindi Jackson, Tamara Grubb, Sherman (Lee) Grubb IV, Jacqulin Jackson & Josh Jackson; one great-grandchild Annabella Jackson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
