Funeral services for Norliasha Taylor Owens, 74, of Midwest City, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Bible Baptist Church with Reverend Jervis Jackson officiating.
Norliasha Taylor Owens was born August 19, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the daughter of Will and Willie Lee (Smith) Taylor. She passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Norliasha, affectionately known as Nora, Doodle, or Two Mama, grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Lincoln High School. Shortly after graduating, she married David Owens, Sr. and they later moved to Oklahoma City. Upon David’s passing in 1973, she solely raised their six children.
As a child, she attended and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Chickasha and later attended True Vine Independent Baptist Church in Spencer with her children.
She excelled in the craft of being a precision machinist and over the years worked at Demco, Carlon, and Chromalloy, where she met and maintained many meaningful lifelong friendships.
Norliasha loved shopping at swap meets and flea markets. She enjoyed playing dominos and cards, and was also skilled at sewing, crafting and home interior redecorating. She followed the news with a passion, watching CNN, MSNBC and CSPAN religiously and loved discussing all aspects of politics. In her later years she enjoyed many quality hours watching the home shopping networks. She enjoyed drinking coffee every day with Melva “Moolah” Lloyd, her best friend for the past 40 years and a 2 nd mother to Norliasha’s children. They completed word searches and read “the papers”…The Globe, The Enquirer and The Star.
She was loved and cherished by her nieces and nephews and other family members and was deeply devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Norliasha was preceded in death by both her parents, Will and Willie Lee Taylor; her husband, David Owens; sisters, Alice Rose Jackson and Betty Jo Davis; brothers, Jimmy D. Taylor, Willis Taylor, Eulene Smith and Bennie Smith.
Survivors include her children, David Owens, Jr., Kascina D. Owens, Norliasha K. Owens, Eric D. Owens, Cedric R. Owens, and Destan L. Owens; one sister, Sammie Lee Andrew; brothers, Shed Taylor, Lovell Taylor, and Harvey Taylor; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
