Funeral services for Neal Hawthorne, 74, of Ninnekah, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.
Neal Hawthorne was born April 21, 1946 in Mesa, Arizona to Herman B. Hawthorne and Lavida K. (Johnson) Hawthorne. He died on Friday, February 12, 2021 at his home in Ninnekah.
Neal grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha Public Schools. He later attended a couple years of college.
He went into the United States Army, doing two and a half tours in Vietnam and he was also stationed in Colorado.
He married Brenda Vermillion in Colorado and to this marriage his son, Brian Neal Hawthorn was born. He later married Barbara Bennett and to this union his sons Todd and Shane were born. He then had a daughter Paige Haile with Glenda McDonald.
After his military service, Neal went to work for his dad at Hawthorne Trucking and drove truck for a time. Later he started work in the oilfield and worked his way up, retiring as a consultant. He was the superintendent over projects at Astro and Project Five.
Neal liked to golf when he could, enjoyed cooking and being with his family. He and Kathryn Bayne have enjoyed life together since 2005.
He was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Sammy and Jimmy Hawthorn; sisters Barbara Fish and Pamela Jaques; and son Brian Hawthorn in 2017.
Survivors include his life companion Kathryn Bayne of the home; children Todd Hawthorn of Cordell, Shane Hawthorn and wife Allison of Chickasha, Paige Haile and husband Dante Laws of Chickasha; step-son Cliff Bayne of Ninnekah; brothers Rick Hawthorn and wife Tammy of Wright City and Kim Hawthorn and wife Janet of Chickasha; sisters Janell Ludwell and husband Frank of Chickasha, Kay Williams and husband Randy of Chickasha and Patricia Pool of Chickasha; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other extended family and friends.
Interment will be in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
