Graveside services for Nathan Bailey, 85, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 in the Cement Cemetery with Reverend Eutimio Delacruz officiating.

Nathaniel Bailey was born February 12, 1937 in Delbarton, West Virginia to Masten and Ida (Chafins) Bailey. He died on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at his home in Chickasha.

Nathan grew up in Delbarton, West Virginia until the late 1940’s. His family moved to Pike County, Kentucky where he became fast friends with James Hatfield. (Shelby’s brother) and the Hatfield family. Nathan and James stayed in mischief constantly. Nathan and Shelby lost touch when her family moved to Ohio.

Nathan began working in the Kentucky coal mines. He married and had two children.

Over the years, Nathan owned and operated a lawn service. Later he went to work at Kroger’s and then to Minyard’s where he worked as a butcher.

Some years later, Nathan and Shelby met again in Dallas, Texas and in 2002 they married and later settled in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Nathan went to work at Wal-Mart until he retired. He was a simple man. He didn’t need a lot. He lived for his wife, Shelby. She was his everything.

Nathan loved working outside in the yard. He enjoyed a great Dallas Cowboys football game, John Wayne movies, puzzles, fishing, and cooking. He was always there for his children, grandchildren, and other family and friends. He would do anything for anyone.

He was preceded in death by both parents, son James Dean Bailey, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Joyce Gray and nephew Terry Alan Gray.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Bailey of Chickasha; daughter Tammy Henderson and husband Terry of Marion, Ohio; stepdaughter Mary Sue Taff and husband Clint of Dallas, Texas; stepson George Ray Brown of Dallas, Texas; brother Jr. Bailey of West Virginia; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many other extended family and friends. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
