A funeral service for Nancy Meredyth Hill, 86, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Nancy Meredyth (Briggs) Hill was born March 26, 1938 in Tonopah, Nevada to Fredrick Briggs and Mary Virginia (Tucker) Briggs. She passed from this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Growing up Nancy’s father was a surveyor and the family travelled and lived all over the Western United States. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1956 and then continued to move around with the family.
They settled in Sonora, Texas and that is where, in 1963, she met the love of her life, John Richard Hill and they were married on February 14, 1964. They shared 53 years of marriage until John’s death in August 2017.
John worked in the oilfield and they moved around with the oilfield crew. Nancy made their house a home wherever they went. She would take care of the children, the home, school activities, and the packing and unpacking. Over the years, she volunteered for homeroom mom, Brownies, Meals on Wheels, Friends of the Library and she started the Adult Literacy Program in Pampa, Texas.
Nancy enjoyed reading and feeding and watching the birds. They would get together with the oilfield crew, which was like a big family. She would often babysit for them and they would visit and play cards. She loved her dogs. She was a compassionate person and the best mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always had a kind word.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, John, and her brother Clayton “Bud” Briggs.
Loved ones left to remember her are her children John Clayton Hill and wife Beth of Bluffton, South Carolina, Mary Barrington and husband Kenny of Ninnekah, and Holly DeBoer and husband John of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Joshua and Melanie Hill, Andrew Hill, Dalton and Ciara Johnson, Dylan Johnson and Kylie Carroll, Daniel DeBoer, and Samuel DeBoer; great-grandchildren Lucas and Elliana; nephew Brett Briggs; and other extended family and friends.
