Memorial services for Nancy Lee Walker, 66, of Chickasha, will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes and Eddie Cox officiating.
January 28, 1948 was a day the light in the world shown a little brighter. On October 6, 2014, the world then dimmed. Nancy Lee Walker was taken home to be with her Lord and Savior leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and compassion. Nancy was born to William and Mary Reuter on January 28, 1948 in Kansas City, MO. She was the second of three children, the only girl. She was the apple of her father’s eye and a helpful companion to her mother. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and was a lifeguard with the local YMCA. While working as a beautician in Blytheville, AK, she met her life partner of nearly 41 years. She married Jerry Walker on November 3, 1973 in Blytheville. Their first son, Craig Walker, was born on August 18, 1974, and passing the same day. After they moved back to Oklahoma, Nancy gave birth to Clifford Franklin in 1979 and then Emily Dyan in 1981.
She was the biggest supporter of her children, and could often be seen cheering them on at various sporting events, or spending time listening to musical instruments being played. She was a staple at football games and choir recitals. She was loved not only by her children, but by all the families she came in contact with through the extracurricular activities. Even as adults, she was always supporting the decisions of her children and offered her shoulder and wisdom when things didn’t always go as planned.
Her lifelong passion was caring for the elderly. She worked on and off in different nursing homes, eventually going to school and receiving her LPN license in 1989. She was a vocal advocate for those she took responsibility for, and was always spending time with her patients that had little to no family involvement. She even learned to tat from one of her patients. She developed many friendships with the nurses and staff of the places she worked. It was through assisting the elderly, that she found her sister in life, Joann Brown, who remains her best friend until today.
It was also on the internet that she cultivated friendships from all over the world starting 16 years ago. She was active in many Christian blog sites, Alzheimer’s sights, crocheting/craft blog sights, and anything else that peeked her interest. She was often crocheting prayer shawls for those going through rough times. The study for a cure for Alzheimer’s became an undertaking for her that she turned into a webpage with all sorts of information for those searching for answers or comfort in their own circumstances.
A constant joy in her later life were her grandchildren. The year 2005 brought her two first grandchildren into her life, Madison Faith and Preston Wyatt, only three months apart. Eli Franklin was born in 2007, and Cameron Gage came in 2012. Not only was she enraptured with her grandchildren, they were with her also.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Wyle Reuter; father, William H. Reuter; father-in-law, Frank Walker; son, Craig Walker; younger brother, Michael Reuter, and older brother, William H. Reuter, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Walker, of the home; her son Clifford Walker of Chickasha; daughter, Emily Mitchell and husband, Michael, of Chickasha; mother-in-law, Frances Walker of Kingfisher; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Becky Walker of Stillwater; brother and sister-in-law, Jody and Kim Walker of Guthrie; brother-in-law, Kent Walker of Kingfisher; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Kaye Schneider of Hollister, Mo.; her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
