Memorial Services for Medora Nowell, 78, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Medora Pearl Shaw was born July 14, 1935 in Groom, Texas, the daughter of Beryl Shaw and Edna Roach Shaw. She died Saturday, January 4, 2014, in Chickasha.
Medora grew up in Sun Ray, Texas, and graduated from Sun Ray High School as the Valedictorian in 1953. On June 9, 1955 she married Robert Lloyd Dobbins. From this union they raised four sons.
Medora later went on to graduate from The University of Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas as a Registered Nurse. Medora was employed as a hospice nurse for many years and during her time in Texas she was also active in the Texas Nurses Association. On April 22, 1970 she married C.B. Nowell where she helped raise eight additional step-children. She was also a Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, crocheting, sewing, and quilting.
She was preceded in death by both parents; one son, Beryl Dobbins; two brothers, Donald Shaw and Robert Shaw; two step-sons, Richard Nowell and Gerald Nowell; and one step-daughter, Ellen Holt.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law D’Estaing and Tamara Dobbins of Renton, Washington; Dysart and Nancy Dobbins of Lone Grove; and Derek and Barbara Dobbins of Amber; one sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Russel Miller of Noble; step-children, Sue Dais, Norweita Brown, Shannon Montemayor, Terry McAdams, and Beverly Hamilton; grandchildren and spouses, Megan and Roger Cushman, Milam and Sara Dobbins, Melody and James Brazell, Mason Dobbins, Micah Dobbins, Martyn Dobbins, Keith Thompson, Kayla Dobbins, Amanda Robinett, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and very close family friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
