Funeral services for Mary Marie Goodson Smith, 82, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Mary Marie Smith was born August 27, 1939 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Orville and Lydia Smith. She passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Chickasha.
Mary grew up in the Laverty area and graduated from Pioneer High School back in the day when Pioneer went to the 12 th grade.
On August 28, 1965, she married Chester Goodson and they were married almost 34 years when he passed away on March 21, 1999. Under this union one child, Rodney Eugene Goodson, was born August 27, 1969.
Mary worked for Pioneer School as a bus driver and cooking in the cafeteria then she worked many years for Grady Memorial Hospital in the business office until she retired. After that she owned a donut shop for a time in the 1980’s and when she sold it, went back to work for Grady Memorial Hospital.
She later married David Smith on September 14, 2002 and they were married until his passing September 3, 2014.
She was a devoted Christian and grew up a member in the Laverty Baptist Church. Mary loved to bake and was well known for her amazing cinnamon rolls and pumpkin rolls. She loved her granddaughters and never missed any of their ballgames. She helped raise many of her nieces and nephews. She loved to play dominos, card games and bingo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, grandson Sawyer Rhett Goodson, brothers Howard, Carl, Bob and Harry Smith, sister Thelma (Smith) McDaniel.
Survivors are her son Rodney Goodson and his wife Kara of Chickasha; granddaughters Shaylah Goodson and fiancé Ryan LaSorsa of Lawton and Dahlly Wilson and husband Jacob of Chickasha; great-grandson Haydn “Taterbug” Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family and a plethora of friends.
Interment will be in Laverty Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
