Funeral services for Marian “Wayne” Griswold, 84, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Maranatha Baptist Church with Chuck Bishop officiating.
Marian “Wayne” Griswold was born February 21, 1930 in Tabler. He was the son of Claud Griswold and Francis Elizabeth (Husband) Griswold. He died Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Oklahoma City.
Wayne moved to California as a young child. He grew up and attended schools in the Alameda, California area; however he spent a lot of time in Oklahoma. In 1949, he married Joyce Dobson, and to this union his daughter, Jann Leverenz, was born. Joyce preceded him in death in 1989.
In December of 1990, Wayne married Evelyn Taylor in Lake Tahoe, California.
He was employed as a truck driver teamster for many years, then owned and operated a trucking company from 1978 until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement, he and Evelyn moved to Chickasha.
Wayne loved watching NASCAR, fishing, traveling, mowing yards, collecting old cars, and especially attending Car Club events with his brothers and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents; daughter, Jann Leverenz; first wife, Joyce; six brothers, Harris “Hap” Griswold, George Griswold, Jack Robert Watkins, Randall Watkins, Thurman Watkins, and Garvin Watkins; sisters, Geneva Watkins-LeBleu and Alberta Griswold Morgan.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of the home; grandson, Thomas Griswold of California; three sons and daughter-in-law, Brandon Taylor of Texas, Brian and Heather Taylor of California, and James Taylor of California; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Sandra Watkins of Chickasha; sisters, Sandy Severin and her husband, Bob of California, and Joy Watkins of California; five grandchildren, Alysia and Samantha Taylor of Chickasha, Aiden, Lindsey, and Reese Taylor of California; three great-grandchildren, Astarra Griswold-Laughlin, Kaison Taylor, and Bailey Mitchell.
There will be no viewing at the funeral home or the service. Wayne’s wishes were to be cremated following the service, with the cremains interred in California. The family wishes to give a special thank you to daughter-in-law, Patricia Taylor.
