Funeral services for Lynn “Sonny” Russell, 85, of Pocasset, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Amber with Pastor Jonathan Morris officiating.
Lynn “Sonny” Russell was born September 27, 1933 in Butner, Oklahoma to Lynn Russell, Sr. and Fannie Mae (Standridge) Russell. He passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Sonny grew up in Wewoka, Oklahoma and joined the United States Army just a few years prior to the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany for a year and served here in the states also.
On August 8, 1959, he married Laverne Clark and they were married almost 60 years.
Sonny was co-founder of Able Uniform Rentals in Oklahoma City with Alvin Russell. In 1983, he sold out retiring to operate the family farm in Pocasset. He enjoyed working with the cattle, his pride and joy.
Sonny and Laverne have been long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Amber for many years.
He was preceded in death by both parents and his siblings, Dud Russell, Kathleen Gwaltney, T.J. Russell and Irene Lowe.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Catherine Russell of Edmond, daughter, Cindy Nordyke of Oklahoma City, grandchildren, Tori Russell, Hayley Russell and Madison Nordyke, and other extended family and friends.
Interment will be in Amber Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
