A memorial service for Linda Loretta “Sue” Gilliam will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Kim Hayes officiating.
Linda Loretta Sue (Johnson) Gilliam was born October 30, 1943 to Preston Neely Johnson and Minnie Margaret (Shaw) Johnson in Amarillo, Texas. She passed from this life on Thursday, February 13th, 2025 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Sue attended Adrian Public School from 1949 until 1961, when she graduated. She then attended USAO in Chickasha for a time.
Sue married Lester Dee Gilliam on July 13, 1961 in Adrian, Texas and they had a daughter Diana “Gootus” Lynn Gilliam.
Sue was a member of the Oklahoma Home and Community Education for 56 years. She was President of Friend’s OHCE local group for over 35 years and served as Vice-President as well. She was the Grady County OHCE President for four years and the Southwest Regional Representative and OK State President. Over the years, she held other offices and committee chairs for OHCE.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, serving as the local President, Southwest Regional President, which included Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and as State President. Sue belonged to the Washita Valley Quilters Guild and was President for two years and also held other offices.
Her hobbies when she had time were bowling, fishing, crocheting, quilting, and working with the local 4-H groups. She was also an avid artist and gardener.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lester, sisters Nancy Johnson-Burk, Frances Jo Pridmore, Aremilda Sterling and Betty Ruth Cavitt; brothers, Billy Lee Johnson, Owen Clifton Johnson, and James Leon Johnson.
Loved ones left to remember her are her daughter and son-in-law Diana and Gary McAtee; granddaughters Brandy Brewer and Niki Rodriguez and husband Lupe; great-grandchildren, Andrew Gonzales, Aidan Herron, Dallas Rodriguez, Brynn Rodriguez, and Luka Rodriguez; niece and husband Pam and Kevin Booker; nephew and wife Rex and Donna Johnson; niece and husband Dusty and Raye Torrey; and other extended family and friends.
The burial of cremains will be in Ninnekah Cemetery. The cremation arrangements and service are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
