Funeral services for Leon McLemore, 80, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday July 8, 2016 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with John Freeman officiating.
Jerry Leon McLemore was born January 9, 1936 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to William Calvin McLemore and Ruth Mobley McLemore. He died July 2, 2016 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Leon attended all 12 years of school at Bradley and graduated high school in 1954.
In November 1955, he married Peggy L. Howell and to this marriage were born two sons, Jerry Lynn McLemore and Randall Kent McLemore. Leon and Peggy moved to Oklahoma City, where he attended Draughon Business College. Upon graduation, they returned to the family farm in Bradley.
Leon farmed and raised Duroc hogs along with cattle. In 1968, he went to work for US Agriculture Research Service Center in Chickasha, where he retired in 1995.
He served on the Ninnekah School Board, Grady County Fair Board, and was a member of the United Duroc Association.
Leon was a member of the Bradley Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm raising top quality show pigs where he was competitive and respected. He will be missed in the agriculture community as well as by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, both parents, and a brother, Keith McLemore.
Survivors are his sons, Jerry McLemore and his wife, Mary Ann, of Ninnekah and Kent McLemore and his wife, Amy, and their daughter, Kate, of Bradley; granddaughter, Shelly Reeves and her husband, DJ and their children, Ali and Jesslyn, of Talihina; granddaughter, Kara Yocham and her husband, Harlan, and their children, Finley, Raimey and Tripp, of Sapulpa; granddaughter, Ashley Rayburn and her husband, Sam, and their children, Ty, Cade, Lane and Holt, of Chickasha; granddaughter, Mindy Walker and her husband, Cale, and their children, Mac and Lily, of Chickasha; grandson, Chance McLemore and his wife, Kaity, of Oklahoma City; grandson, Chad McLemore, of Ninnekah; and other extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grady County Junior Livestock Show, PO Box 2111, Chickasha, OK 73023.
Interment will be in Alex Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
