Funeral services for Lea “Evelyn” Caples, 69, of Ninnekah, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Lea “Evelyn” (Dowd) Caples was born March 29, 1952 in Pampa, Texas, the daughter of Jimmie Lewis Dowd and Mary (Sawyer) Dowd. She died Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at her home in Ninnekah, Oklahoma.

Evelyn grew up and attended school in Pampa, Texas.

In the 1980’s, she came to the Chickasha area. She began nursing school at Canadian Valley Technology Center on the El Reno Campus and received and was proud of her nursing degree. She worked at Eventide Nursing Home here in Chickasha for many years and also worked for the State of Oklahoma for a couple of years. She enjoyed her nursing career, retiring in 2008.

She was married to the love of her life, Billy Caples.

After retiring, she enjoyed taking trips with the entire family. She liked going to casinos and garage sales. She loved gardening and would sell her produce at the local farmer’s market. She also enjoyed fishing and camping. Evelyn was the life of the party, always cracking a joke and having a great attitude. She had a large number of friends and never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her father Jimmie Dowd, mother Mary Landrum and son Jason Caples.

Survivors include her husband Billy Caples of the home, daughters Crystal Jernagen of Chickasha, Christina Kilgore and husband Mitch of Ninnekah and Brenda Sacash of Lawton; brother Jim Dowd and wife Kathy of Texas; grandchildren Shelbe, Courtney, Coleby, Michael, Brittany, Brandon and Bryce; great-grandchildren Kain, Oria, Raelyn, Oli, Aurora, Iziah and Jazman; other extended family and many friends.

Interment will be in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
