Funeral services for Larry Joe Muncrief, 70, of Chickasha will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Emeritus Kim Hayes officiating and Roy Boyer assisting.
Larry Joe Muncrief was born on July 16, 1951 to David Archie and Billie Jo Muncrief, in Ada, OK. He passed to his heavenly home on September 9, 2021, in Oklahoma City, OK, surrounded by his children following a short battle with Covid. Larry spent his younger years in Bromide, OK. Following the death of his father in 1959, the family moved to Norman, and later to Moore, OK when Billie married Troy Ward. Larry graduated from Moore High School in 1969. He then completed one semester at the University of Oklahoma before joining his uncles in the oilfield in the panhandle of Oklahoma.
Larry married Cheryl Marcum on October 26, 1972. They were married for 26 years and 4 children were born of this union. The couple moved to Anadarko, OK in 1979, where Larry continued to work in the oilfield until the bust. Larry then ran a Gilt-Edge Milk route, and later a Wonder Bread/Hostess route until his retirement. Larry went back into the oilfield for a while after his retirement. Larry loved to help people, especially his kids. He then started doing deliveries for his youngest daughter, Brandi, at J&W Grill. He loved sitting in the grill and visiting with customers. Everyone loved him and he never met a stranger.
Larry was a family man and loved being surrounded by family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry also loved hunting, working with bird dogs, fishing, and attending sporting events for his kids and grandkids. He loved to be around people and talk. He always had a story to tell. The running joke amongst his kids was that he would talk to a wall, and they nicknamed him “Chatty Cathy.” He loved going on vacations to the beach and meet people from around the world. Larry had the biggest heart and would help anyone in need. He was “Poppy” to not only his grandkids, but to all the kids that knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents David Archie Muncrief and Billie Jo Hilton Muncrief Ward, his step father Troy Ward, his infant child, sister Karla Kay Muncrief, brother Jerry Ward, niece Michawn Ward, and nephew Stanley Payne.
