Funeral services will be held for L.E. ‘Ed’ Gilbert, 75, of Chickasha at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Walworth officiating.
Lone Edgar Gilbert was born on November 14, 1936, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, the son of James G. Gilbert and Edith Pearl Lemons Gilbert. He died on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at home in Chickasha.
Ed grew up and attended schools in Amber, Apache and Osage. Later he spent some time proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Stewart, on June 19, 1957, in Chickasha. They had 52 ½ wonderful years together before her death in January of 2010. The union blessed them with three sons: Jim, Jerry, and Joe.
Ed was a truck driver most of his life. He drove for several companies over the years including Chickasha Mobile Homes, Sequoyah and Carpet Mills in Anadarko. Ed loved to tinker with all sorts of different projects in his spare time, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Betty Jean Gilbert; son, Jerry Gilbert in 1993; two brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim Gilbert of Chickasha and Joseph Gilbert and wife Kimmi of Chickasha; two granddaughters, Stephanie Gilbert of Oklahoma City and Kaylee Gilbert of Chickasha; one grandson, Jordan Gilbert of Shawnee; one sister, Loretta Moore of Amber; and many other family and friends.
Interment will be in the Laverty Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
