Judy Gayle Nelson

d. August 23, 2024

A funeral service for Judy Gayle Nelson, 60, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Bible Baptist Church, with Ezell Nelson officiating.

Judith Gayle (Hart) Nelson was born September 7, 1963, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Richard Quentin Hart and Jean Carolyn (Ferguson) Hart. She passed from this life on August 23, 2024, after an 11-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Judy grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1981. While in high school, she ran track and set the state record for the 1 mile her freshman year, making it into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. She attended OSU in Stillwater for two years, thereafter, returning to Chickasha to finish her degree at USAO.

She married Toby Lyons in 1982, and they started Chickasha Industrial & Welding Supply in 1989, which they owned and operated for 30 years before her retirement. They were together for 17 years.

In the year 2000, she married Don Paul “Oozzie” Nelson, and they had their son, Hugh, who was her pride and joy.

Shortly after having Hugh, they moved to a plot of land north of Chickasha where she had the opportunity to enjoy raising cattle, riding and caring for her horses, and experiencing the beautiful nature Oklahoma has to offer. She especially enjoyed yardwork, gardening, and working around the farm to make her home beautiful. She was a strong, hard-working woman, and abundantly kind to everyone she met. She loved her son more than anything.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Richard Hart, husband Don Nelson in 2015, and stepson Zac Nelson.

Immediate family left to remember her are her son Hugh Nelson of Norman; mother Jean Hart of Chickasha; brother and sister-in-law Rick and Lisa Hart of Chickasha; sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Larry Kidd of Jackson, Ohio; stepdaughter and partner Natalie Nelson and Angie Buck.

There will be no public viewing for Judy.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
