A graveside memorial service for Joseph Lawrence Cocheran, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 in the Pocasset Cemetery with a reception to follow at the home of Ryan and Heather Ford.
Joseph Lawrence Cocheran died at the age of 75 in Carmichael, Ca on Monday, October 30, 2023. Joe was born in Pocasset, Ok on February 8, 1948 to Elias Russel and Margaret Lee Cocheran. He grew up with his brother, Russel Lee, at their home in Grady County surrounded by a litany of cousins and friends, many of whom he stayed close with throughout his life. He was a rambunctious, vehicle loving adolescent throughout his school years at Chickasha High School, from which he was able to graduate in 1968.
In that same year, Joe joined the US Army to serve his county, including time in both Vietnam and Germany, until being honorably discharged in 1972. This service was a big part of his story and something that he was incredibly proud of, as evidenced by his ever present “Vietnam Veteran” hat.
After returning to the states, Joe went back to his calling; the open road. He soon met Charlotte and fell in love, marrying her on Jan 7, 1971. They had five children; Kim, Terry Joe, Brad, Heather and Rhonda. Joe continued truck driving until he was able to retire in the early 2010s. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and his dogs, fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, and the Yankees, and of course a good smoke and an RC cola.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elias Russel, his mother Margaret Lee, his brother Russel Levi, and his son Terry Joe.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his kids; Kim, Brad, Heather and Rhonda, six grandkids, two great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends, who will all miss him dearly.
The service will be under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
