Jerry Verdale Gibson was born April 21, 1938 in Holly Creek, Oklahoma, the son of J.B. Gibson and Helen Elizabeth (Brown) Gibson. He passed from this life on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Jerry grew up in Holly Creek and graduated from Idabel High School in 1956. He then attended Southeastern Oklahoma University for a time.

On August 8, 1958, he married Betty Jo Clay in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. They shared almost 64 years of marriage before her passing in June 2022. They raised their family in Moore, Bridge Creek, and they later enjoyed their lake house at Cedar Lake near Hinton.

As a young man, he was a funeral home ambulance driver, worked at Weyerhaeuser Saw Mill, then he moved to Oklahoma City and began working at Johnston Food Company, owned by his uncle, for many years, working his way up to a buyer before moving to another food company for another 20 years.

Jerry loved fishing, camping, and going to lakes every weekend with family. He liked to garden and any outdoor activity. He enjoyed his grandchildren thoroughly and anytime he had one of the grandbabies on his lap, he was singing funny songs. His family is grateful for his dedication, sacrifice and love. He was the salt of the earth. Jerry was ornery, labeled “the instigator” and very social. He liked playing bingo at the Senior Nutrition Center and during his time at Glenhaven.

He was preceded in death by both parents, a daughter Crystal Lynn Gibson, his wife Betty Jo; brother Jearl Ray Gibson and sister June Seales.

Loved ones left to remember him are his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Shannon Gibson of Chickasha; daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Albert Moore of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Courtney Jones and husband Dustin of McLoud, Clayton Foster and wife Krystal of Broken Arrow, Callie Foster of Oklahoma City, Caleb Foster of Chickasha, Jesse Hurd of Oklahoma City, Abbi Gibson of Chickasha, Tris Moore of Chickasha, Joi Trammell and husband Levi of Colorado Springs, and Mia Moore of Chickasha; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and other extended family and friends.
