Jerry Lenard Witt was born February 17, 1945 in Caddo County, near Hinton, Oklahoma to Orie Lenard Witt and Gladys Glee (Anderson) Witt. He was granted his forever wings and flew to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Jerry attended Oney grade school and graduated from Binger High School in 1963. Shortly after high school, he joined the United States Air Force, was stationed at McChord AFB in Tacoma, Washington, served during Vietnam and ended his military service as a Senior Airman.

On May 28, 1968, he married Karla Sue Gregory and they shared 56 years of marriage together, making many cherished memories. They lived in Binger for a bit, moved to Oklahoma City for a few years, then in 1980, they settled in Chickasha.

Jerry worked as an insurance adjuster for Oklahoma Farmers Union Insurance, retiring after 35 years. He was a lifelong pilot and was a certified flight instructor at Wiley Post and Chickasha Wings. After retiring, he enjoyed flying his taildragger the most.

He was passionate about flying and also enjoyed camping. Jerry was a bit onery and a jokester. He drank a lot of coffee and told a lot of stories, while never meeting a stranger. His buddies fondly referred to him as “Windy Witt.” He was a legend in his own mind with great directive skills and he always saw the positive side of life. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Robyn Ann Lane, both his parents, and a brother Carl Witt.
