Jerry Dean Brownen, 76, of Chickasha, was born March 11, 1943 in Cogar, Oklahoma the son of Arthur Edward Brownen and Jewel (Trout) Brownen. He died Sunday, April 21, 2019 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Jerry graduated from Gracemont High School.

On February 1, 1963, he married Patsy Jean Underwood in Gracemont, Oklahoma.

They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked at the nuclear testing site for a few years before they came back to Oklahoma. For many years he worked as a driller, then tool pusher, in the oilfield. In 1972, he worked on the rig in Burns Flat that set the world record for depth at 31,000 feet. He had also worked for several years on rigs in the Aleutian Islands.

In 1985, they moved to Meridian, Texas. There they built, opened, and managed a successful convenient store on Lake Whitney. They were able to retire at an early age. Afterwards, they moved around some before making their home in Chickasha.

Jerry loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, specializing in noodling. He also taught his daughter, Jeanna, to noodle.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Patsy; all of his siblings, Nathan Brownen, Connie Gann, and Hershel Brownen; and one great-grandson, Paxton McCord Mills.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Angela and Mark Daugherty of Gracemont and Jeanna Brownen of Geronimo; granddaughter, Kirbi Mills and her husband, Blake, of Yukon; great-granddaughter, Channing Lane Mills; nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.Private family services will be held at a later date for Jerry.
