Funeral services will be held for Janie Marie Hayes, 74, of Chickasha at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012, in the Ferguson Funeral Chapel in Chickasha.

Janie Marie Halbert was born on August 19, 1937, in Oak Cliff, Texas, the daughter of Howard and Janette (Weaver) Halbert.  She died on Saturday, February 18, 2012, in Oklahoma City.

Janie grew up and attended school in the Oak Cliff area.  In high school she was a majorette and loved to perform.  Her first job was working as an elevator girl for the Mayfair Department Store.  After finishing 10 th grade she met and fell in love with a young Marine by the name of Jimmie Lee Hayes.  They were married in Dallas on April 17, 1953.  Janie was a homemaker when the children were young, but later worked at a factory and an oil company.  In later years they moved to Kilgore, Texas, to help take care of Jimmie’s parents.  While there she worked at the credit bureau and a dentist office before retiring.  In Kilgore she was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and attended Forest Home Baptist Church.  When Janie and Jimmie had both retired they relocated to Chickasha to be closer to their daughter.  She was an active member of the Faith Baptist Church and the ladies group.

Janie loved cooking and baking and Paula Deen was her hero.  She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by:  both parents; one son, Gus; and one brother, Donnie Eugene Halbert.

Survivors include:  husband Jimmie Lee Hayes, Sr. of the home; son Jimmie Lee Hayes, Jr. and wife Donna of Flint, TX; son David Wallace Hayes of Chickasha; daughter Gwen Hankins and husband Gene of Chickasha; brother Jack Halbert and wife Berniece of Euless, TX; sister Alice Pugh and husband Gayland of Cleburne, TX; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Conway, Arkansas, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012.  Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
