Funeral services for Janice Kaye Rodgers, 71, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Holden McCrackin officiating.

Janice Kaye Rodgers was born July 8, 1944 in Cyril, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lloyd Jack Laughlin and Edyth (Lynch) Laughlin. She passed away at her home in Chickasha, Oklahoma on Sunday, November 8, 2015.

She grew up in Cyril, while attending Cyril High School she was a cheerleader and FFA Queen. She graduated from Cyril High School as a Valedictorian. After graduating, she attended Oklahoma A & M College, now OSU.

Janice married Paul Rodgers in the early 1960’s and from this union her son, Derrick Justin Rodgers, was born.

After she married, she lived in Moore until 1999, when she lost her home in the May 3 rd tornado. At that time she decided to relocate to Chickasha to be closer to family.

Janice retired to Chickasha after a long career in Oklahoma State government. She worked for several years in the 1980s in the Office of the Director of the Department of Human Services. In 1984 she was appointed Personal Assistant to DHS Director Robert Fulton. From 1987 to 1991 she held a similar position with the Cabinet Secretary of Social Services in the office of Governor Henry Bellmon.

Robert Fulton, who worked closely with Janice for seven years, said “Janice, or Jann, as we called her, was a very competent and dedicated worker. She had a warm personality and brightened every office in which she worked. We kept in touch over the years and my wife and I admired greatly her courage in coping with the various health problems that came her way.”

Janice was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moore for many years and while living in Chickasha, she attended various churches within the area. She was also a member of the Cyril Red Hat Society. Janice served as President of The League of Grady County Democratic Women and was very active member and served in several other positions as well. She enjoyed attending all the events her nieces and nephews were involved with and she also enjoyed traveling.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Darryl Laughlin.

Survivors include her son, Derrick Rodgers and his wife, Patty, of Thornton, Colorado; three grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Lori Scott, and CJ Blanchard; ten great-grandchildren; niece, Denise Coe; nephew, Chance Laughlin; great-nephew, Holden McCrackin; great-nieces; Tayler Fix, Shelbie Laughlin, and Fayth Laughlin; and other extended family and friends.

Monetary donations may be made to the Student Ministry designated account at Immanuel Baptist Church, 207 N 2 nd , Duncan, Oklahoma 73533.

Services and interment in Cyril’s Celestial Gardens Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
