Janice Elliott Crump was born May 25, 1932 in Albert, Oklahoma to Jewel H. Elliott and Goldie Hamilton Elliott. She died February 13, 2018. Memorial services will be held at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 601 24th Avenue S.W., Norman, OK at 11:00 a.m. on March 12, 2018 with Dr. Jim Burns and Reverend Tracy Evans officiating.

Janice went to school in Ft. Cobb, OK until her sophomore year in high school when the family moved to Apache to establish Elliott Department Store. She was chosen to go to Girls’ State her junior year and graduated from Apache High School in 1949 as Salutatorian of her class. She received a B.A. in English from Oklahoma College for Women (now University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma “USAO”) in Chickasha in 1953 and a Master of Education Degree with a major in Library Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1973.

On November 26, 1952, Janice married Kenneth Eugene Crump of Chickasha. Janice and Kenneth had two children, Kenneth E. Crump Jr. and Kathy Lynn Crump. During the 49 years of their marriage, the family lived in Apache and Chickasha until Kenneth and Janice moved to Norman in 2001.

Early in her professional life, Janice worked as secretary of First Presbyterian Church of Chickasha, a Civil Service Clerk at Ft. Sill Army Base in Lawton, a social worker for Chickasha Public Schools and a social worker for the Grady County Department of Human Services. Later, she taught high school English and was the school librarian at Apache High School from 1968 through 1980. She taught English at Chickasha Junior High School from 1980-1984 at which time she became the school’s library media specialist until her retirement in June of 1994. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at USAO and Oklahoma City Community College for three years, teaching freshman writing classes.

Janice was a member of Oklahoma Education Association, Oklahoma Library Association, past member of the Governor’s Mansion Library Committee, Chickasha United Teachers’ Association, Chickasha Educational Advisory Council and Chickasha Public Schools Educational Foundation. She was recognized as a finalist for the Polly Clarke Award for Outstanding Library Media Specialist.

Janice and Kenneth were Elders of the First Presbyterian Church of Chickasha where she sang in the choir for many years. She later served as an Elder of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Norman.

She was preceded in death by Kenneth; her parents, Jewel and Goldie Elliott; Kenneth’s parents, J.D. and Leona Crump; her brothers-in-law, Bill Crump, Austin Davidson, John Hayes, Larry Crump and Bob Crump; her sisters-in-law, Connie Davidson and Norma Hayes and nephew, Jerry Davidson.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ken Crump and Shela Crump of Tulsa, OK; daughter Kathy Crump and Chris Honeman of Conifer, CO; grandchildren Brett Crump and his wife, Sarin of Tulsa, OK, Ted Crump and his wife Tina of Dallas, TX and granddaughter Kiran Crump of Tulsa, OK and great-grandson Judah Crump of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law Sharon Crump of Lexington, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Leon and Fran Crump, John and Glenda Crump and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janice’s children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Interment will occur privately at Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha prior to the memorial service and are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
