A funeral service for Janet Sue (Wheeler) Stewart, 74, of Duncan, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 in the Duncan First Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Butler officiating.
Janet Sue (Wheeler) Stewart was born February 24, 1949 in Norman, Oklahoma to Jesse Vernon Wheeler and Frankie Fae (Miller) Wheeler. She passed from this life on August 4, 2023 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Janet grew up in Moore and graduated from Moore High School in 1967. She attended the University of Oklahoma (OU) and earned her Bachelor’s in Education.
In 1969, she married Bill Stewart and to this union her three children were born. She taught elementary school for three years then stayed at home investing in the lives of her children.
Janet took a lot of pride in being there for her kids, she was very involved with them, attending every activity or sporting event. When she became a “Grammie,” it gave her life new meaning and she thought those little ones hung the moon. They would see her and their eyes would light up and they knew lots of love and affection was headed their way. She will be deeply missed.
She enjoyed listening to music, watching romcoms on Netflix and scrolling through Facebook connecting with friends and family. She also liked traveling and was excited to try new experiences. She could find joy in the smallest things. In recent years, she had enjoyed keeping in touch with high school friends, attending monthly get-togethers.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Lonnie Waits and sister-in-law Ragena Wheeler.
Loved ones left to remember her are her children Shelley Stewart of Duncan, Will Stewart and wife Lauren of Chickasha, and Abbie Moore and husband Jeremy of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Tripp, Jake, Lennon, Brody, and Riley; sisters Sharon Waits and Carol Dunn and husband Hoyt; brother Mark Wheeler; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 10 th at the Duncan First Baptist Church, 901 W. Ash Avenue, Duncan, OK.
Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, located in Chickasha, under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
